Body Safety is teaching a child awareness of their own body to give them the skills and language to identify potential situations that make them feel unsafe.  Teaching children how to keep their bodies safe helps to empower them to respond in those moments.  Grown-ups should make sure that their child is in safe environments and situations.

   According to the CDC, it is estimated that       1 in 4 girls and 1 in 13 boys will be engaged in some form of sexual abuse before the age of 18 years old.


Child sexual abuse is the involvement of children in activities that they don't fully understand, cannot consent to or those that violate social norms.  This may involve either no ph

  It is estimated that African-American children have almost two times the risk of being sexually abused compared to white children.

The Doctor Says: Let's Talk About Body Safety is book is written by an African-American female pediatrician who specializes in      child abuse.



 This first released books will be a part of a series for BIPOC children.

Located in the Safe and Sound Building on the MultiCare campus in Tacoma, WA, The CAC of Pierce County serves their community by providing a “child-focused, safe place for families to get help.” Children from birth through age 17 years old who are victims of suspected abuse or neglect may be seen at the CAC by a team of professionals - forensic interviewers, victim advocates, social workers and medical staff. The CAC team believes it is “important to promote child safety by educating the community about child abuse issues.”   The center also provides training for those who work with children and the professionals who help victims of abuse.”
